Norwich University of the Arts.

Last week was my first week starting my illustration degree at Norwich University of the Arts. We have all been in workshops for most of the week and I have found myself becoming looser with my work and coming away from what I would normally stick to. I have even found myself enjoying the use of colour a lot more! Experimental mark making is the main object for the first term/10 weeks of my time at NUA, exploring different materials, ways of making marks, ways of drawing, different drawing tools and items you wouldn't normally think to draw with.
This weeks workshop involved creating our own unique drawing tools made of bits and bobs from around the house. We were set six different types of tools to create with our items (single line tool, multiple line tool, a tool which will scratch away a surface/layer, a blocking out tool, a smudging tool, and a brush tool), then we had to complete different drawing tasks with each tool. I will upload images of what I created and what I have done with them, explaining what they are and how they work.

Lined flash sheet #1

Today I finished my first lined flash sheet. Really pleased with how it turned out in the end, and how well I've managed to fit everything in. For once I've actually gotten proportion right! I will be making a limited run of 10 A4 prints of these which will be up for sale on my Etsy store tomorrow evening. They will be on high quality 200 gsm paper and £20 each (not including p+p).

Black And White Drawings.

Recently I have found out that I rather like making completely contrasting black and white drawings. I have been experimenting with different ideas, where the background is black and any part of the image/detail is in white. To start off with, I found this to be a bit of a challenge, I found that the pens i was using were either too thick, or would bleed through the paper making the drawing a mess, and ruining the white in the drawings. After some experimenting, I have come to start perfecting this technique of drawing. Here are some of the images I have drawn using this technique so far!

Hot Air Balloon Skull.

Planet And Pyramid Skull.

Sun And Moon.

Crying Skull.

Each of these images are available to order as digital prints here!

Photographs.

This evening, I found some lovely light coming through my bedroom window, as the sun was setting over Norwich city. I decided it would be a great opportunity to get out my camera which I haven't used in quite some time. Got some rather nice images.
